Waterbending - Hula by Blue-Ten Waterbending - Hula by Blue-Ten
3/10/2011 Edit: Made a bunch of changes to this one. Added more contrast to the colors, fixed Katara's facial features a bit and adjusted the image to be poster-sized. You can see the old version here.

This is a birthday present for my sister: :iconlovely-whimsy:, who requested "ninja turtles or waterbenders" :B. I'm a big TMNT fan, but I haven't drawn them for years, so the choice was obvious XD.

It's an older-looking Katara using Hula to bend the water :D. Her stance is based loosely on the Hula pose called "ike" which looks like this [link]

One thing I would have loved to see in Avatar was a group of waterbenders based around Polynesian culture. It would fit really well :]. The concept for this picture is something I wanted to do for a while.

Haha, anyway, Happy B-day, sis!

Nice water effects! Though I can't help hearing the HAWAII 5-O theme music while looking at this (Not exactly something works well with the A:TLA world, I admit).

This is absolutely lovely- I've never seen anyone mix the Polynesian cultural influence with katara, and I must say it is extremely pleasing :D!

And you're absolutely right. I wonder that Bryke didn't think to do it. Or perhaps with all the penguin sledding and giant koi fish riding, they figured it would be too much to fit in Avatar-verse Polynesia xD
